How is Orinko French activated carbon produced?
The French activated carbon we produce comes from PEFC and FSC-certified oak or beech wood. Both come from the recovery of sawmill waste. Favoring short supply chains, we work only with sawmills located within a radius of around 100 kilometers around the factory.
The 100% French activated carbon we distribute is manufactured in a high-performance environmental factory. It is thanks to the use of a unique and patented production process that our activated carbon has such a well-defined structure. During the first production cycle, the carbon is placed in a pyrolysis furnace that operates day and night without interruption, where it undergoes the physical activation process. Thanks to our mastery of this process and the entire production chain, we obtain activated carbon of consistent quality and a purity greater than 90%.
The various production stages are all carried out in a closed circuit. We extract and recycle the tars in order to use the sawdust to fuel the boiler. All the gases are also recycled. The co-generation process helps produce energy through gas recycling and provides the plant with electricity and heat, used in particular to dry the coal.
The entire production chain and supplies have been designed to limit waste production to a strict minimum. Only water vapor, which has a low environmental impact, is released into the atmosphere.
Efficiency of our carbon
Our 100% French activated carbon has a fixed carbon content of over 90% (93% for beech and 94% for oak) and high microporosity (96%). These two characteristics particularly promote filtration and make our French activated carbon one of the most effective tap water filters on the market.
Here is a summary of the performance achieved by our 100% French activated carbon:
It completely adsorbs the chlorine contained in the water in just four hours,
It eliminates half of the phenol present in the water after one hour and 100% in 24 hours,
The pH of the water it filters complies with the regulatory limit.
By purifying tap water, our French activated carbon does not deprive it of its properties:
It does not modify the conductivity of the water,
It releases all the trace elements and minerals essential for the proper functioning of our body (magnesium, potassium, calcium, trace elements including copper and fluorine).
